Rev. Steve Wood

Reverend Steve Wood has a passion for making disciples of Jesus Christ and growing and cultivating Christian leaders for global impact through a life-on-life teaching method.
Steve was born and raised in Sandy Springs, Georgia. He received his BBA in Finance from the University of Georgia in 1980 and answered God’s call to ministry in September 1983. In 1985 he was ordained Deacon in the North Georgia UMC Conference, received a Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1986, and was ordained Elder in the North Georgia UMC Conference in 1988.
His career has spanned 41 years in ministry beginning as a youth pastor. From there he planted a church in Douglas County which grew from 16 members to over 600, served as lead pastors for several churches, including serving 17 years as the lead pastor of one of the largest multi-cultural churches who grew from being $40M in debt to being debt free.
Under his service and leadership, all churches have grown both physically and in the number of members. Many churches have received recognition including: Conference Small Membership Church of the Year; Fastest Growing Congregation in the Southeast Jurisdiction; Highest worship attendance/membership ratios in all of Methodism with the majority of new members joining by Profession of Faith in Jesus Christ; and becoming one of the premier teaching centers of multi-generational, multi-ethnic models of worship, discipleship, and shared leadership;
In addition to his pastoral role, Steve serves on the boards of Mount Pisgah Christian School, the Summit Counseling Center, the Champions Place Foundation, The Confessing Movement, the General Council on Finance and Administration of the global UMC, and was one of 14 clergy delegates elected to the world gathering of the General Conference of the United Methodist Church representing the North Georgia Conference in 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2019. He also served as the Chair of the General Council of Finance and Administration GAEM Committee for 7 years overseeing the entire denomination’s budget.
On the global spectrum, Steve has preached, trained and equipped disciples in 27 countries including Israel, India, Kenya, Jordan, Haiti, Brazil, Nigeria, Costa Rica, South Africa, Venezuela, St. Lucia, Mexico, Kenya, Nigeria, Russia, the Philippines, and Cambodia.
Steve and LeAnne, his wife of thirty-one years, have four children, two grandchildren, and two grand dogs. Everyone lives in North Metro Atlanta and enjoys spending time together participating in water sports, playing golf, gardening, snow skiing, watching and playing baseball and basketball, fishing and bike-riding.
